Temporary Exportation

For overseas fairs, exhibitions, stage productions and project work, your goods travel not to be sold but to be shown and used — and they come back exactly as they went. The temporary exportation regime carries that reality over to the duty side: managed correctly, your goods enter the destination country duty-free and meet no import duty on return either. We manage every step from the application to return clearance and closure of the file.

01

ATA carnet application

The ATA carnet is the fastest and least friction-prone route to temporary exportation; a single document covers both the exit and the temporary entry formalities in the destination country. We prepare the carnet application through the chambers and set out your goods list in the carnet format and in line with the destination country's expectations.

02

Goods list and identification

The list in the carnet must match the contents of the crate exactly; a discrepancy in quantity, serial number or description can go as far as your stand not opening at the destination country's customs. We prepare the list meticulously and, on return, make sure identification of the same goods is fully recorded.

03

Exit and return clearance

Fair schedules do not flex. We complete your goods' exit and return formalities in line with your fair or project calendar, leaving no room for delay. We work in direct coordination with your carrier and your event organiser.

04

Extension, sale on site and closure

If your goods are sold at the fair or stay abroad, the regime must be converted into a definitive export; this is a separate operation and, if skipped, leaves your file open. We monitor the carnet and regime periods, file extension applications where needed, and close the file in due form whichever scenario you end up in.

Frequently asked

It is valid in more than 80 countries party to the ATA Convention; our principal trading partners, including the European Union countries, the United States, Japan and China, are inside that network. There are, however, countries outside the system, where the classic temporary exportation procedure applies. We check your destination country together before the application.

A sale is possible, but since the goods will no longer return, the regime must be converted into a definitive export and the necessary declarations made. For goods travelling under an ATA carnet, payment of import duties in the destination country comes into play. If there is any such possibility, tell us before the fair — we will structure the process around it from the start.

As a rule the carnet is valid for one year from the date of issue, and within that period it can be used for several countries and several journeys. The destination country may, however, grant the goods a shorter stay under its own legislation. We track both calendars and plan the return of the goods before the carnet expires.

Yes. In countries outside the ATA system, or for operations where a carnet is not suitable, the classic regime is run with a temporary export declaration; in that case a guarantee may come into play in the destination country. We determine together which route is faster and cheaper, based on your destination country and the value of your goods.
